Healing both ends of the lead

Specialist Training

One of the core aims of Building Bonds With Dogs is to help people live calmer, more connected lives through relationship-led dog training.

Alongside companion dog work, I offer bespoke training pathways for individuals and families who may benefit from a dog trained for emotional and psychological support.

These programmes are designed to help children with autism, adults living with mental health challenges, and people experiencing loneliness, trauma, or overwhelm. They focus on developing dogs who are calm, responsive and emotionally attuned, supporting daily routines, easing stress and strengthening confidence through trust, consistency and clear communication.

Each plan is tailored to the individual, the dog, and their real-world environment. Training may include building emotional regulation, focus, neutrality in public spaces, and appropriate supportive behaviours that help people feel safer and more grounded in everyday life.

Not every dog — or every situation — is suited to this kind of work, and suitability is always assessed with the wellbeing of both human and dog at the centre.

These programmes focus on relationship-led training and emotional support. They are not currently offered as formal assistance or service dog certification, nor do they provide guaranteed public access rights under UK law. However, they can form a strong foundation for dogs working in supportive and therapeutic roles.

I am actively working towards recognised assistance dog frameworks and best-practice standards, and this offering will evolve responsibly over time.

Because these programmes are highly individual, I ask that anyone interested contact me directly so we can explore suitability together.
